Prayer Ministries
"Pray without ceasing. In all circumstances give thanks, for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus." (1 Th 5:17-18)
"While parishioners find great fulfillment in giving themselves to parish life, prayer purifies and intensifies the intention of the steward. Prayer increases our yearning to receive the source and summit of our Catholic faith, the Eucharist. As a parish family, we gather together to worship and praise God in the Mass. Nourished by the Word of God and the Eucharist, we are strengthened as a parish family to go and to serve the Lord. Stewardship is a lived response of the disciple to follow this command."~ from "The Pillars of Parish Stewardship" by the Office of Stewardship, Diocese of Wichita, Kansas
Prayer Ministries include:
Liturgy Committee
The purpose of the Liturgy Committee is to nurture the faith of the community by providing meaningful opportunities for worshiping and praising God through liturgical and para-liturgical services. This committee coordinates all components of the Liturgy and ensures that the reception of the sacraments is available to all on a regular basis.
Lectors
Lectors are "proclaimers of the Word." They proclaim the scriptures at weekend Holy Masses, feast days, and at various special worship services throughout the year. Training is provided.
Altar Server
Altar Servers assist the priest at Holy Mass and other Liturgical services. Altar servers are open to 4th grade to adult. All must attend training prior to serving.
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
These parishioners assist the priest in the distribution of Holy Communion at Holy Mass and bringing Holy Communion to the sick and homebound of the parish. Some ministers bring the Eucharist to area nursing homes and hospitals. EMHCs must be approved by the pastor.
Offertory Gift Bearer
Families and individuals sign up to be Gift Bearers during the Offertory procession.
Lead Rosary Before Holy Mass
Parishioners gather before Holy Mass to pray the rosary. Individuals may sign up to lead the Rosary before the 9:30 a.m. Holy Mass on Sundays.
Elijah Cup
The Elijah Cup is the chalice used in Holy Mass, and is taken home by parishioners during the week. The Chalice is placed in a prominent place in their home where they can gather and pray daily for the increase of vocations to the priesthood and religious life. Individuals and families may sign up to take the Elijah Cup home for the week and return it the following Sunday. Since the institution of the Elijah Cup, vocations in our archdiocese and across the nation have greatly increased.
Prayer Request Line
The Prayer Request Line is made up of parishioners who pray for the needs of our parish. When someone is in need of prayer, the Prayer Line is alerted and Heaven is stormed with prayer for the person in need. This is a wonderful ministry for everyone, especially the home bound.
Adoration
Here at OLOG, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament takes place every Tuesday evening from 7-8 p.m. in the chapel, following the 6:30 p.m. Holy Mass. On first Fridays of the month, Adoration is from 10-11 a.m. in the chapel. All are invited to spend some time in adoration of Our Lord.
Burse Club
The purpose of the Burse Club is the establishment of permanent scholarships for the education of men for the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Mobile. No meetings to attend and the dues are only $12.00 per year. Membership drive is in early September but individuals may join anytime.
Respect Life Committee
The Respect Life committee works to foster a respect for all human life by raising the consciousness of parishioners throughout the year. Members of this committee provide displays and reading material to parishioners. Parish participation with diocesan Respect Life programs is also coordinated through this ministry.
